The new year is upon us, and for those who haven’t already it’s important to start thinking about goals. Many people set New Year’s resolutions, but not everyone has the success rate that Team HQ Direct enjoys. In this blog, we’ll share one of our most effective strategies for being a high achiever.
It may seem apparent that the best objectives are smart ones, but it’s also essential for them to be SMART – as in Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based. When we use this acronym as a filter, we can take any desire we have for the future and turn it into a clearly-defined, action-oriented aspiration with metrics and deadlines that keep us on track and motivated.
For example, let’s take a familiar HQ Direct ambition many professionals share for 2019: to earn more money. A worthy idea, to be sure, but to make it an objective that can be pursued with purpose we would make it SMART. How much money? Why is this important? How long do we have? Is our current career or industry capable of supporting this increase? These and many other questions help us to create a much more detailed statement that would sound something like this: “My goal is to increase my earnings by seven percent in every quarter of 2019 over the same quarter in 2018 because by the end of the year I want to have enough money for a down payment on a new car.”
SMART can be used in a similar fashion on any goal, be it personal or professional. To learn more about the ways we create success for ourselves follow HQ Direct on Twitter.
